Tips for international students studying in Malaysia

There are many things to be kept in mind if you are planning to study in Malaysia as an international student. It is obvious that you might be nervous while moving out from your hometown to Malaysia to study but remember that everything blends in and you’ll soon feel good about enjoying your time studying in Malaysia.

To start with, the following points should be kept in mind.

1. Many people speak English

With Malaysia having its own language, you might assume that it will be compulsory for you to learn Malay. However, it will be a relief for you to know that many people and Malaysia speak English and so you’ll be comfortable while communicating with them. With this being said, it will only make your experience better if you learn Malay.

Talking about communication, make sure that you communicate as much as you can, smile to people and be polite while talking to them.

2. Pack wisely for your stay in Malaysia

We know that you have understood the Malaysia visa requirements and you are making plans accordingly. However, we suggest that you pack your bag in a way that you do not feel the need to make yourself look special in front of tons of students flock to Malaysia. Please note that many international students come to Malaysia every year to study and they prepare themselves in a way to get adjusted to everything in Malaysia.

3. Avoid substance abuse

It is important to know that Malaysia has strict rules as far as illicit drug use is concerned to point in some cases, it might even attract death penalty. With this being side, we advise you to not to use any drug without a prescription and, at the same time, you should keep yourself away from people who talk about such substances with you.

 4. Find people from your hometown

Understand that you are not the only one from your hometown who is starting in Malaysia. They might be many others, and if you get an opportunity to meet them, you should do so because it will help you in avoiding situations like being homesick. At the same time, making new friends in Malaysia while studying will only help you in feeling better.

Malaysian students are often friendly, and it shouldn’t be a problem for you to find new friends in your class as well as on the campus. Sharing space in the canteen with strangers will also help you find new friends in Malaysia.
