Participants needed for research survey to investigate eating control in women

\"\"Past research has found that perceived control over eating is strongly related to life satisfaction in women. The purpose of the survey is to further this research by looking specifically at the relationship between control over eating and emotional well being in women.

The survey, which will take approximately 15 minutes to complete, is suitable for women who are 18 years or older, Australian residents and who do not have a current eating disorder such as bulimia, anorexia or binge eating disorder.

The online survey will ask a number of questions about personal demographics as well as eating related behaviours, emotional response tendencies and current mood. Competence in English is needed to complete the survey. Upon completion, participants will be entered into a draw to win a $50 Coles-Meyer gift card.

During the survey, you’ll also be asked whether you are willing to participate in a second experimental phase of the research project. Some of those who express interest will be contacted and asked to take part. All participants are free to decline at any stage.

The second phase of the research involves answering a pair of very short surveys as well as physiological recording of participant heart rate and galvanic skin response while they watch three short film clips in succession. These pre-booked sessions would take place at a psychology testing lab within the Macquarie University North Ryde campus. This phase of the study is expected to take around 30 minutes, and testing times are flexible. Participants would again be eligible to win a second $50 Coles-Meyer gift card.

The study is being conducted by Meelah Hamilton as part of her Honours degree in Psychology under the supervision of Dr Andrew Baillie from the University’s Department of Psychology. Any questions about the study can be directed to Meelah Hamilton at [email protected] or 0403 822 339.
