Few notes about what is IVF?

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is also known as the ‘test tube‘baby technique. It was developed in 1978 for the treatment of women with damaged fallopian tubes and who were not capable of getting pregnant.  It was considered to be a baffling technique for infertility that delivered what were then known as “unnaturally conceived children”.

IVF procedure includes combining the eggs and sperm outside the body in a laboratory. Once fertilization takes place and the embryos are formed, they are then transferred to the uterus. IVF is considered as a mind-boggling and a costly method. Due to this, just around 5% of couples with infertility opt for it. However, IVF and other comparable procedures have brought about the birth of millions of infants around the world.

Reasons for infertility which can be treated by IVF

You can opt for IVF treatment if you have any of these problems:

  • Endometriosis
  • Low sperm count
  • Problems with the uterus or fallopian tubes
  • Problems with ovulation
  • Antibody issues that damage the sperm or eggs
  • The failure of sperm to infiltrate or get by in the cervical bodily fluid
  • An unexplained infertility issue

Usually, IVF is never the initial phase of treatment for infertility. Rather, it is used for cases in which different techniques, for example, ovulation medications, surgery, and IUI haven’t worked.
