Students will be required to undertake two blocks of practical placement on a commercial thoroughbred stud during the breeding, as well as the yearling preparation and weaning seasons.

The Diploma of Equine Stud Management will cover three main areas:

  • Practical Horse Management
  • Business Management
  • Pasture/Farm/Property/Infrastructure Management.

Students will study:

    • handle horses safely
    • apply chemicals under supervision
    • prepare and apply chemicals
    • establish and maintain the enterprise occupational health and safety program
    • manage agricultural crop production
    • develop and implement a breeding strategy
    • manage livestock production
    • develop a whole farm plan
    • develop and implement plans for horse nutrition
    • manage care of stud stock
    • develop, implement and monitor health strategies for stud stock
    • develop and monitor business operations
    • develop and implement a marketing plan for stud stock

Students will be required to undertake two blocks of practical placement on a commercial thoroughbred stud during the breeding and yearling preparation/weaning seasons.

Entry Requirements:
Successful completion of studies equivalent to Australian Year 12 education or relevant work experience. IELTS score of 5.5 or higher. Mature Age students are encouraged to apply.
